I’m always excited for client launches, but this one is particularly cool. The Rent The Runway beta launched this week. It’s like Netflix for dresses: rent a dress, wear it, and throw it back in the mail. I took a Brian Reyes dress for a spin at a recent wedding and it was awesome. Congrats Jenn and Jenny! This is really neat. I’ve never rented a dress before (never had an occasion worthy of it, maybe?) but this is surprisingly affordable, versatile, and seemingly easy to use. I may splurge for this when I attend my friend’s wedding next year.

I recently saw Man Hunt (1941) and - just like a woman - was very excited about finding an arrow pin similar to the leading lady’s version.

I’ve never voted in a local election before. I just never cared enough. Fortunately, Bloomberg gave me a reason this year.

He bombarded the city with countless TV and subway ads and me specifically with almost daily mailers.

This, after (as the above clip shows) explicitly stating that the city council’s disregard for the public’s desire for term limits is disgraceful.

Nice one. Thank you Bloomberg for encouraging me to vote for the sole reason of getting you down from that Mayor’s throne.

(link) After two miserable (not at first, but eventually) weekends of searching for winter boots throughout Brooklyn, going to every store from DSW to the tiniest boutique in Park Slope, I finally ended up buying the above corso como equestrian design in black.

Mind you, I bought another pair first (for the same price), and then exchanged them because they were beautiful but clearly half a size too big.

This style wasn’t exactly what I wanted - I was looking for something a little more original - and the price was.. kind of painful, but I needed something

on a low heel - oddly very difficult to find which is strange because New York women need shoes they can walk in a lot

sturdy - last year I made the mistake of buying boots that turned out to be purely decorative

appropriate with any outfit

could zip - for some peculiar reason, I couldn’t pull up or zip most of the boots I tried on this year; for someone who has pretty average size calfs, this was extremely disconcerting

and the above were the only shoes that fit all those criteria!

Here’s hoping that, with care, these will last the 2+ years my last pair lasted.

Are you a fan of the band Rooney? I’d heard this song but wasn’t really familiar with the band until I looked up this guy (Ned Brower, the drummer) while watching Dawson’s Creek.

So, he went from this (a weird nerdy guy who for me is possibly the most relatable/interesting fringe character on the show)

There are a lot of great things up on Hulu right now (The Elephant Man, Chaplin, Moonstruck, etc), but the thing I’m most excited about is Julia Sweeney’s God Said ‘Ha!’

I initially discovered my love for Sweeney about a year ago by way of This American Life.

The episode and the above overlap somewhat, but if you’re new to the story, please give this video a watch.
